Returning to the Blood Bank

"Returning to the Blood Bank" is the process of recording that a blood unit has been returned to a Blood Bank. This event will end the cold chain for the blood unit.

The return event will prompt the user to record the following information:

  • Name of the Blood Bank that the blood unit is being returned to.
  • Name of the person who the blood unit was handed to.
  • Justification for why the blood unit is being returned.
  • An optional note, unless "other" is selected as the justification.

The Blood Bank and Recipient fields are "Smart Autocomplete" fields, which means that they will suggest names which have been previously used. If you do not see the Bank or Recipient you are looking for, you may enter a new name and press enter. his will open a new dialog prompting you to enter and additional information.

This event will end the unit's cold chain. While it is possible to continue to add events to this unit, users will have to confirm that the unit is still within the cold chain.

If a previously returned blood unit is returned to your organization, it is valid to re-start the cold chain by using the "Check In" or "Check Out" events. This will allow you to continue to track the blood unit, and to record the temperature of the cooler that the blood unit is in.
