BloodCOMM Modes

BloodCOMM functions in either online mode or Bluetooth mode.

To assist our customers and improve the performance and reliability of the BloodCOMM app, Bluetooth functionality has been isolated to a new "Bluetooth Mode".

Bluetooth devices will no longer be available when logged into BloodCOMM.  Existing archived Bluetooth reports remain available when Bluetooth Mode is activated.

BloodCOMM offers two modes in which the app is able to be utilized.  The primary way to access and use BloodCOMM is while signed into your BloodCOMM Account.  Users are presented with a choice when first loading BloodCOMM on a mobile device, with the option to switch at any time.

BloodCOMM Online

This is the primary way to access the full BloodCOMM platform. It requires an active internet connection and a BloodCOMM Pro or Premium subscription.

  • Access: Available via blood.dev or the mobile app (iOS/Android).

  • Best For: Comprehensive data management and administrative tasks.

  • Key Features:

    • BloodCOMM PRO & PREMIUM tier access.

    • Remote Device Management.

    • Real-time Cloud Alerts.

    • AI-powered Blood Bag Scanner.

    • Centralized Blood Management System.

Bluetooth Mode

Bluetooth Mode is designed for core functionality in environments where internet access is restricted or unavailable.

  • Access: Available only via the downloaded mobile app on iOS or Android devices.

  • Best For: Secure environments, or locations with restricted connectivity.

  • Key Features:

    • Direct Bluetooth connection to hardware devices.

    • Live device status monitoring.

    • Local device report downloads.

    • Data export capabilities.

Bluetooth Mode requires access to Bluetooth and Location permissions on your mobile device, in order to discover nearby Delta products.

Note that Bluetooth Alerts run in a background service on the Android or iOS operating system.  This causes additional battery drain, and requires additional permissions to enable.

Switching Modes

When logged in, users may switch to Bluetooth mode by tapping on the user icon at the top right of the app and selecting  "Bluetooth Mode".  Switching modes will not log users out.

While in Bluetooth Mode, the Settings menu features a button to "Log into BloodCOMM" which will return the user to Online Mode.

Why is Bluetooth separate now?

The frequency of data updates between the Bluetooth systems and the Cloud systems can vary.  To improve data integrity and reduce confusion between the two data sets, the modes have been separated.  While the data is based on the same hardware and the same sensors, the exact time at which data is recorded can vary between the two modes.

While in Bluetooth mode, devices will broadcast their status to nearby BloodCOMM apps, updating once per second.  Devices will record their own temperature logs, and BloodCOMM can wirelessly download the on-board log via Bluetooth.

While online, the BloodCOMM server will receive 15-minute updates from each device.  These updates contain the device's current status, the historic logs, and supplementary data.  BloodCOMM will display the latest known data, downloading the logs over the internet.  BloodCOMM is not limited to the available dataset which is stored on devices, and will present additional data which is not available in Bluetooth mode.

Should I be switching modes daily?
No, users who are subscribed to BloodCOMM Pro or Premium should be using the online mode for all activities, monitoring, reporting, and alerting.

Bluetooth mode should only be used as a backup during cell service interruptions or other times in which the internet is not accessible.  Note that devices will upload stored logs when they come back online to ensure there is no gap in data reporting.
