HIPAA & PHI in BloodCOMM

This document applies to the following applications:

  • Android: com.deltadevteam.APRU
  • iOS: com.deltadevteam.tempmonitor
  • Online: https://blood.dev
Do not enter any HIPAA protected information or Protected Health Information (PHI).

Users are strictly prohibited from entering HIPAA-protected information or Protected Health Information (PHI) into the BloodCOMM platform.

As a dedicated cold chain management system, BloodCOMM is not designed for patient management. The system does not, and should not, store any identifiable patient data, including—but not limited to—patient names or medical record numbers.

Transfusion Events

When entering data in a Transfusion Event, users are prompted to enter up to 4 optional fields.  These fields (such as "Transporting Agency ID") are to be used to help correlate the data to a specific event, patient, or other usage of the blood unit.  Users are explicitly instructed to not enter PHI.

It is the responsibility of the Blood Program Manager to ensure a policy is in place for which data to record when logging a transfusion.

Transfusion Reports & HIPAA Compliance

Delta Dev Team is dedicated to expanding our toolkit to better support your blood program. We are currently developing a Transfusion Report system designed to capture detailed patient data and clinical context surrounding transfusion events. To ensure the highest standards of security and data integrity for your patients, we are meticulously refining this system before its official release.
