Alerts & Notifications
BloodCOMM is able to send a wide array of alerts, in a variety of formats.
BloodCOMM Alerts are secondary alerts to the hardware device's primary alarms. BloodCOMM is only able to send alerts based on available network connections and user preferences.
All blood storage devices should be continoiusly monitored in-person to identify audio and visual alarms.
Alerts in BloodCOMM
Alerts are automatic notifications which are sent to your phone, computer, email, and more when a device detects an issue. Alerts are sent when the device detects an issue, such as a temperature excursion, low battery, or other issue. You can customize the alerts you receive, and how you receive them, in the Alerts section of the app.
Bluetooth Alerts are only available for the ICE-2L at this time, see the next page, Bluetooth Alerts for more information.
BloodCOMM Cloud continuously monitors the status of all connected devices, and will send alerts when an issue is detected. The following must be true for an alert to be able to be sent:
- The device must be connected to the internet (via cell network or BloodCOMM Connect).
- The device must report the issue to the BloodCOMM Cloud.
- ICE-2Ls and BloodCOMM Connect devices report their status every 15 minutes.
- The device must have an active BloodCOMM License.
- Your user account must have alerts enabled.
- You must be subscribed to alerts for the device.

Types of Alerts:
Temperature Excursions
Alerts will be sent when the temperature exceeds the device's hardcoded excursion limits at 2°C and 6°C, per AABB guidelines.
Excursion alerts are not able to be turned off, as they are critical to the safe transport of blood products. If you are subscribed to a device and have alerts enabled, you will receive excursion alerts when the device detects an excursion.
Note that Excursion alerts are sent when the temperature exceeds the safe excursion limits, i.e. when the device temperature is above 6°C or below 2°C. If you are interested in receiving alerts when the temperature is approaching excursion limits, please enable Temperature Warning Alerts, described in the next section.
Temperature Warnings
Alerts will be sent when the temperature is approaching excursion limits, based on thresholds set by your organization's admin. These alerts are designed to give you a heads up that an excursion may be imminent, so you can take action to prevent it if possible.
Temperature Warning Alerts are opt-in, and can be enabled on the "Alert Triggers" settings page. If enabled, you will receive temperature warning alerts when the device detects a temperature deviation which is approaching excursion limits, based on thresholds set by your organization's admin.
Low Battery
Send an alert when the battery is at or below the specified threshold. The minimum is 20% to ensure the cloud data is able to update before the battery dies.
Time Until Excursion
Send an alert when the duration (estimated time until excursion) is at or below the specified threshold.
Note that Delta Development Team coolers and refrigerators take the ambient temperature, the state of the internal phase-change material and other variables to calculate this value.
As a result, the calculated remaining Duration is much more accurate than a simple temperature-based alert.
Device Offline
Send an alert when the device has not communicated with the server for a specified amount of time. This could be due to cell outages, dead batteries, or other network-related issues.
Note that Delta Development Team devices all continue to record data while offline, and will back stored logs up to the server when back online.
